Barrow Cemetery in Rogaland

The cemetery at Lund consists of seven barrows and one site of a boat house from the Iron Age. The remains of the boat house are sadly almost destroyed while the barrows are still intact. They are oriented in a line going north to south parallel with the river Moisåna. Today the cemetery is a part of a local park with picnic tables and a nice view over the river.

The cemetery consists of four round barrows and three elongated barrows. The northernmost mound is a large long barrow, 35 metres in length and around 5 metres wide and it makes it one of the largest long barrows in Rogaland. The largest round barrow is around 17 metres in diameter and around 2 metres in height. The rest of the round barrows are from 8 to 12 metres in diameter and from 0,5 to 1,5 metres in height. The cemetery has probably belonged to a small settlement nearby.

At a farm to the north west of the cemetery was found two large spiral gold rings and one spiral gold necklace of almost 500g together with some burned bones. This was probably from a cremation burial from around 200AD and it probably shows Moi has had a long tradition of settlement.
