This small fjord village of Herand in beautiful Hardanger fjord has a very pretty rock art site. The carvings are located on a flat stone surface close to a main road and with some housings nearby. It is located on a hill and has a very beautiful view over the fjord. Some more small carvings can be found on another rock just next to the road.
The rock surface has been treated against moss growth and some of the carvings have been painted and the area has been maid accessible to visitors with a information poster and a fence around the rock. Parking can be difficult to find! The area was previously part of a garden for fruit trees.
It has been registered 85 carvings, boat carvings, foot soles, human figures, cup marks, "sun circles", animals, spirals, geometrical shapes and some unknown figures. The site has more human figures compared to a lot of other known bronze age rock art sites in Norway, no less than 23 human figures. In one of them can be seen several humans in a sort of a "procession". The site is dated to early to mid bronze age and is a classic example of a bronze age "farming" rock art site.
