At Kjødlingevollen at a high hilltop is a settlement from the age of migration (400-500AD). The site consists of possibly 4 remains of housings, an enclosure with a stone fence, 5 burial cairns and around 100 clearing cairns. The site was abandoned around 600AD as many other iron age settlements in Rogaland. Why they were abandoned is a mystery and it has been several theories.
When I visited the site the area is covered with very high grass and it is hard to make out the details of the different artifacts. I could fine one very clear burial cairn, around 15 metres in diameter and around 1,5 metres in height. It is located on the top of a natural hill and is easy visible. I could also make out two housing remains, they are both around 15 metres long and around 4 metres wide. They have once been divided in several rooms. I could not find the remains of the enclosure or any of the other burial cairns.
From this site is the most splendid view over Høgsfjord and parts of Lysefjord!
