Against the church wall of Grindheim church is a very pretty runestone. It was found in the church wall of the older church building, it has originally come from one of the neighbouring farms, but when the old church was rebuilt, the stone was taken out and put up along the wall of the new church where it was attached to the wall with iron bands and bolts.

The runestone is 3.75 metres in height, around 1 metre wide and around 20 cm deep. It has a very nice shape and almost a polished surface. The runic inscription is running from top to bottom along the narrow side of the stone.

The runic inscription is in the newer runes, it dates the stone to around 1000 to 1050BC, it has been translated: "Tormod erected this stone in memory of Tormod Svidande, his father." The name "svidande" is probably a nickname, meaning something like "the one who burns".
