Tawi Petroglyphs
Tawi Petroglyphs submitted by DrewParsons : April 2014 (Vote or comment on this photo)
The Tawi petroglyphs are located in the Musandam Peninsula, Oman. The petroglyphs are of uncertain age but some are older than others as ascertained by the study of the pecking and surrounding undisturbed rock faces. They are however pre-Islamic as some depict characters.

The petroglyphs are found 100 metres before the end of the tar sealed road (which ends just past a deep flood way) in Tawi village which is in a gorge accessed from the Tibat to Khasab road some 4 kilometres from Khasab. The petroglyphs are cut into rocks which have fallen from a cliff face and are unprotected. There is a good display about these and other petroglyphs in Oman in the Khasab Castle Museum (see separate Megalithic Portal Page in our nearby sites list).
