Pasargadae was the oldest capital of Achaemenid empire, as well as residence of Cyrus the Great. Cyrus startd building the city complex in year 546 BC, but it wasn't fiished when he died in year 529 BC. His son Cambyses II continued the works and was also buried in Pasargadae.
The main part of the complex are two palaces originally surrounded by gardens, the fortress located on nearby hill and mausoleum known as tomb of Cyrus the Great. Nowdays the most impressive remains are ruins of Audience Palace and Tomb of Cyrus the Great.
