Naghsh-e-Rostam
Naghsh-e-Rostam submitted by KiwiBetsy : It is known that the tomb at the right (with the scaffolding) is that of Darius I also known as Darius the Great. Other kings probably interred nearby are Xerxes I, Artaxerxes II and Artaxerxes III. Darius I lived from 550 until 486BC and ruled Persia from 521BC until his death at which time the Persian Empire was probably at it’s peak. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Rock Cut Tomb in Fars (Iran)

This site is located about 9km southwest of Persepolis. It’s name means ‘Picture of Rostam’ because it was once thought that the carvings below the tombs represent scenes from the life of the mythical hero Rostam. They actually represent scenes from the lives of ancient kings.
