Ancient Settlement in Esfahan Province.
Two adjacent Sasanian dynastic sites (224-651 CE) each with large fortresses. Recent discoveries include a Sasanian (Zoroastrian) fire temple and metal-melting workshop.

In 2005 the site of Vigol was identified and a joint team of archaeologists from universities of Esfahan, Tehran and Kashan led by Mohsen Javari began their work on 120 hectares of the ancient site. The two ancient cities are only 800 meters apart.
There are two large fortresses, one at each city ("Western" and "Eastern" respectively.) Both were in ruins sometime during or after the dynasty of the Saljuqians of Kerman (1041-1187 CE).
In 2009 Iranian archaeologists discovered a Sasanian (Zoroastrian) fire temple and metal-melting workshop. In addition, archaeologists discovered two unique wells, dated to the same period.
According to Javari Mohsen, director of the archaeological team at Vigol, the wells were ingeniously constructed. Instead of using ceramic pipes or brickwork for the walls, the Sasanian engineers lit a massive bonfire inside the well, causing the walls to harden to form a single, one piece shaft.
Vigol is located approximately 10 km north of ‘Aran o Bidgol'. The location given in the site listing is general to the area, and does not identify the site. Public access to the site is unknown.
