Boshoverheide Grafheuvels
Boshoverheide Grafheuvels submitted by shunt : The mounds in Weert, Holland, come in various shapes, mostly round but there are also C-shaped mounds and more rectangular like this one. The pole in front gives information about that certain area. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Boshoverheide Grafheuvels is a very large barrow cemetery in Weert, in the province Limburg.

At least 130 mounds can be found here, unfortunately they're all overgrown with grass.
There's an asphalt path around the site and a few poles give information about the certain area.
The mounds date from 1100 to 700 BC.
Some were examined and the things found are being kept in Tiendschuur, the museum.

On this website you can see a picture where you can see the mounds much better.

There was another barrow cemetry in Weert called Kamperhoek but this one has dissapeared, it's an industrial zone now. Pity!

Boshoverheide Grafheuvels
Boshoverheide Grafheuvels submitted by shunt : Big mounds, small mounds, as far as your eye can see. The Boshoverheide site is very impressive but it's too bad all mounds are overgrown by grass. At the time I made the pictures I was out there all alone, it felt somewhat strange! (Vote or comment on this photo)

Boshoverheide Grafheuvels submitted by shunt : Detail of the pole: on top you see what's in front of you. My excuses for the bird droppings! The N and the arrow obviously indicate the Northside. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Boshoverheide Grafheuvels
Boshoverheide Grafheuvels submitted by shunt : These posts give information about the mounds in Weert, Holland. This is the translation: In this part of the urn-moor many mounds are kept. Here are more than 130 mounds in an area of over 2 hectares, varying in different sizes and shapes. The largest mound has a diameter of 20 metres and is over 2 metres in height. The smallest mound is barely 6 metres in diameter and 40 centimetres high.... (Vote or comment on this photo)

Boshoverheide Grafheuvels
Boshoverheide Grafheuvels submitted by shunt : There are many more mounds visible to the left, because these are all overgrown with grass. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Boshoverheide Grafheuvels
Boshoverheide Grafheuvels submitted by shunt : The mounds are spread all over the moor. There's along path around the moor which leads to almost all mounds.

Boshoverheide Grafheuvels submitted by shunt : Close-up of the information stand. Every white dot indicates a mound of the barrow cemetery in Weert, Holland. (1 comment)

Boshoverheide Grafheuvels
Boshoverheide Grafheuvels submitted by shunt : Information stand of the 'urnenveld' in Weert, Holland. Urnenveld means 'field of urns', it's a large piece of land, a barrow cemetery containing more than a hundred mounds!
