Stenen op de Mechelse Heide
Stenen op de Mechelse Heide submitted by Alta-Falisa : One standing and one lying stones. The other two are about 20 m further along the trail. August 2015. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Four erratic stones, sometimes called "menhir" (which they are not) by "unauthorized" sources.

The region, a very popular natural park, is criss-crossed with various paths, tracks and trails, some accessible to cyclists, some reserved to walkers. These four stones lie close to each others, along the "Green" itinerary.
Many more similar stones emerge from the loose sand and have been displaced to be used as decorative elements, at various places.

The four stones in question here are :
(1) one Staande Steen (Standing Stone) and one Liggende Steen next to each others
(2) two more Liggende Stenen about 25 meters futher down the trail.
Access the the Natural Park : car park at (50.9778, 5.6590). From there, these four stones can be reached by walking about 1000 m on a well-marked trail going up and down the dunes (see photo underneath).

August 2015.
