Barrow Cemetery in Rogaland

Bakkahodnet is a large barrow cemetery consisting of around 120 small round mounds. It is located on a beautiful spot, overlooking the sea to the north. The small local road goes trough the site and there are barrows both above and below the road on two natural terracces.

The largest three barrows are around 15 metres across and 1,5 metres in height, while all the other barrows are around 2 to 10 metres in diameter. Some of the larger ones are easy to see in the flat terrain while others are almost not possible to see. On the ridge to the south west is a stone fence, and there does not appear to be any barrows on the south side of the fence.

The site is in an open grazing ground and the sheeps have eaten the grass very short so most of the barrows are easy to see. Some of them have craters on top and some have been disturbed in later years.
