Rock Outcrop in Luxembourg
Pas-Bayard is a rock outcrop, one of the legendary stones in the area of Wéris – the others being the Pierre Haina and the Pierre du Diable.
The Pas-Bayard is related to the legend of The Four Sons of Aymon, whose action is set in the reign of Charlemagne (ca. 745 – 814). Written in the late 12th century, it was, and still is, immensely popular.
The stone has a long groove on its surface ; the local version maintains that it was left by the hoof of Bayard, the legendary Horse, allowing the Four Sons of Aymon to escape the troops of Charlemagne and disappear in the Ardennes forests.
