Atheneum van Hasselt
Atheneum van Hasselt submitted by Alta-Falisa : An overall view of the site. Mid-March 2015. (Vote or comment on this photo)
The Atheneum (secondary school) of Hasselt exhibits a small reconstructed dolmen and several standing stones. What you see today is what is left from the Cromlech of Kapelveld, unearthed at the end of the 19th century in a nearby village : Diepenbeek.

In 1904, about 15 stones were laid in front of the main building of the Atheneum to form a Stones Circle -- see the "vintage" photo. During WWII, they have been moved. After the war, they have been rearranged, still in front if the Atheneum, but no longer to form a Stones Circle.

Atheneum van Hasselt
Atheneum van Hasselt submitted by Alta-Falisa : Three stones have been kept in front of the main building of the Atheneum. After WWI, the largest stone has been converted into a monument to the victims of the war. Later, the names of the victims of WWII have been added. Photo : 18 April 2015. Atheneum van Hasselt
Atheneum van Hasselt submitted by Alta-Falisa : I would date this postcard around 1910. It shows the stones brought from Kapelveld onto the lawn of the Atheneum (still called Athénée Royal at that time), and arranged to form a Stones Circle. The Atheneum was built in 1865.
