Barrow Cemetery in Møre og Romsdal
Around the church of Selje and above the road going east-west has previously been a barrow cemetery consisting of 24 round and elongated barrows from the iron age.
When I visited the site I could find 10 smaller round barrows and cairns. 9 of the barrows are round and one is elongated. Most of the barrows are located in a small hillside going north of the church. They are overgrown with mostly short grass and only some few larger trees and are easy to locate.
Most of the barrows are small round cairns, they are around 6-10 metres in diameter and around 0.5 to 1 metre in height. Grass is growing inside the cairns so they appear almost like burial mounds. A elongated mound is around 12 metres long and 4 metres wide.
Close to the church, inside the more modern cemetery, was a large round barrow, around 20 metres in diameter, this barrow have been destroyed in later years.
