Round Barrow(s) in Hordaland
The site consists of two large round barrows. One of them (Kongahaugen) have been previously excavated and just half of the barrow remains today. The other (Tennhaugen) is undamaged and is a very pretty and easily visible round barrow. They both are located on a small grassy hill between several private houses and visible from a far distance.
Tennhaugen is around 20 metres in diameter and 2 metres in height. It is covered in only grass and easy to observe. Kongahaugen was originally 14 metres in diamter and 2 metres in height but today it is much lower, around 1 metre in height with a huge quartzite stone block in the center. The quartz block was found just above the burial chamber which consisted of a circle of stones with a stone slab on top forming a chamber. Inside the chamber was a layer of burned human bones but only some were burned, proving an incomplete or hastily cremation. No grave artifacts or grave goods were found. The barrow was dated to around 200-300AD and it is reason to believe the other barrow is from the same period.
From the barrows and the hill it is a very nice view over the sea to the east and south east.
