Assur (Iraq)
Assur (Iraq) submitted by AlexHunger : Ashur Gypsum Relief dating to ca 1500 BCE, which would be just before or Assyrian empire started expanding or perhaps just at the beginning. The site was inhabited since the 3rd millennium BCE. The relief is in the Berlin Pergamum museum. Despite being a UNESCO site, the original location is endangered from looters and in the medium term from a dam that is in planning. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Ancient Village or Settlement in Iraq

Capital of Ancient Assyrian Empire from the 14th to the 9th centuries BCE, however the city dates back to the 3rd millennium BCE. The city was destroyed by the Babylonians, but revived during the Parthian period in the 1st and 2nd centuries CE.
Unesco World Heritage Site.
Currently the site is threatened by a dam that is in planning as well as looters.
