Africa Museum, Tervuren
Africa Museum, Tervuren submitted by Alta-Falisa : Axes from the Ubangi River region (northern Congo) made from layered sandstone : ideal for polishing if less suitable for flaking. Specimens of that region are generally smaller than axes from other regions. (AUG.2021) (Vote or comment on this photo)
Formerly called the Royal Museum for Central Africa / Koninklijk Museum voor Midden-Afrika. Although the museum concentrates on 19th and 20th century Central Africa, it also has rooms dedicated to prehistory. Top photo: Axes from the Ubangi River region (northern Congo) made from layered sandstone.

"Little is known about the Stone Age in Central Africa. This is because most remains from this time have been found at the surface, mainly during construction works or mining. As a result, they are lacking any context, which makes it difficult to interpret them. The few dated excavation sites are all the more important. The finds that have been made show that the former inhabitants of Central Africa were masters in stone working."

Main building : (50.8307, 4.5187)
Car park : (50.8326, 4.5194).
