First mentioned in 1921. Unearthed in 1971. Landenian sandstone slab, weighting about 4 tons, most probably the capstone of a dolmen.

During excavations, an axe in polished stone has been found nearby.
Access : from the end of the Rue de Sausale. This street (newly resurfaced -- works in progress, April 2014), ends as a Y-junction ; take the left branch, and walk about 200 m on an earth road, going slightly uphill.
Biblio : Brou, Mégalithes, 2nd ed., 1988, 35-37, ill.

Originally, the stone was along the old road linking Nivelles to Herstal over Jodoigne and Landen, all towns having deep roots in history (e.g.: Pépin de Herstal and Pépin de Landen are both prominent figures from the 8th century). This road was already traced at the time of the Roman Empire, and megaliths -- or traces thereof -- are not rare all along.
To be noted that the Romans, for sure energetic builders, did use whatever infrastructure was available, in particular roads already built by the Celts, often limiting themselves to improve them.

Volgens Edgar Simons : De "Pierre-qui-Tourne" in het gehucht Beaurieux is eerder een polijststeen dan een dolmentafel. In de 19de eeuw werden al meerdere polijststenen in de streek gevonden.
