Polissoir de Saint-Symphorien
Polissoir de Saint-Symphorien submitted by Alta-Falisa : Polissoir, re-erected upright. Photo May 2014. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Polishing Stone found around 1860 by a farmer when ploughing a field belonging to the Baron of St Symphorien, on a hilltop towards the South of the village.

The baron had the stone unearthed and installed in the park of his manor.
With time, the origins of the stone had been forgotten. In the mid-20th century, the stone was presented to the nearby City of Mons and erected in an inner court of the Jardins du Mayeur in October 1951. It was then identified as a Polishing Stone.
Later, a local historian retraced the whole history of the stone, and in December 2005 the City of Mons accepted to return the Polishing Stone to the city of Saint-Symphorien, where it has been re-erected in March 2007 in front of the church.
