Remains of ancient settlement in Tell (mound) south of Şanlıurfa, Turkey. It is mentioned in the bible as the city where Terah settled on his departure from Ur and from where Abraham set out on from on his way to Canaan, among others.

Excavations [2006] in the Harran district of Şanlıurfa have uncovered a stamp dating back to 4,000-5,000 BCE. Harran excavation team leader Nurettin Yardımcı said the excavations have been ongoing since 1983 and that recent work in the area has focused on the Harran tumulus and Ulu Cami as well as the Neolithic settlement of Tellidris.

"Our work has indicated that the first inhabitants of Harran lived in Tellidris, dating back to around 8,000 BCE. We found some stamps with different shapes and motifs as well as a bull figure dating back to 6,000 BCE in last year's excavations. The findings showed that the people of Harran and Tellidris lived together around 9,000-10,000 years ago and that the people in Tellidris abandoned it and moved to the Harran tumulus area in later years", he said.

The Tellidris excavations conducted this year [2006], on the other hand, uncovered a stamp dating back to an earlier period, around 4,000 or 5,000 B.C., and we believe that the excavations in Tellidris will unearth further findings of the Neolithic era in the coming years, Yardımcı said.

Harran was also known as Carrhae in ancient times. This Biblical site is also the location of the Battle of Carrhae fought in 53 BCE between the Romans and the Partians and also where the Romans suffered one of their biggest defeats. The Romans were lead by Crassus, the same army leader that crucified all the remaining survivors of the Spartacus rebellion. The story goes that Crassus ( the richest man in the world at the time ) may have died after having molten gold poured down his throat to reflect his greed

Harran's latitude is a 3:4:5 geodetic triangle by Anonymous on Monday, 28 April 2008
The Ur and Harran Latitudes, and Göbekli Tepe
http://jqjacobs.net/blog/gobekli_tepe.html

"NEWS: "... latitude at Harran equals 3/4 atan and at Ur 3/5 atan ..."

2008.04.25 - When is a "moon temple" an observatory? Recent press reports called my attention to Göbekli Tepe ....

I noticed Harran's latitude is 36.87 degrees, the acute angle of a 3:4:5 geodetic triangle (3/4 arc tangent = 36.8699°). Was knowledge of the latitude considered in locating a moon temple at Harran? When is a "moon temple" an observatory? When is idolatry exact science? ....

Divide earth's circumference by days per solar orbit (0.98561° = SO), multiply by 10 pi, and the result is the latitude of the Ur ziggurat, 30.9638° = 31.4159 SO. ....."
