Ancient Palace in Syria

Palace of Ancient Bronze age Canaanite City.
The King of Ugarit did a lot of the trading for his own acount. Foreign dignitaries and traders were received at the palace vestibule and would conduct negotiations at the pool. Scribes would generate contracts on clay tablets on the spot.

Ugarit controled the trade between Crete and Cyprus to Mesopotamia as well as to Egypt and the Hittites.

Ugarit was destroyed in 1185 BCE by an invasion of the Sea People and never recovered.
