A major Hittite city in the 2nd millennium BCE named Tuwanuwa. After the collapse of the Hittite empire Tyana became the capital of an independent Neo-Hittite kingdom in the 8th century BCE.
Since then it has been ruled by the Phrygians, the Achaemenid Persian Empire, Alexander, Antigonus of the Seleucid empire and the Romans.
