Ankara Tumuli
Ankara Tumuli submitted by AlexHunger : The Mausoleum for the Great Turkish Leader and reformer Mustafa Kemal Ataturk was built on top of a Galician Tumuli between 1942 and 1953. Rescue excavations were carrıed out before buıldıng started. The artifacts are now ın the museum. There are a few more Tumuli ın an other part of the cıty. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Round Barrow(s) in Ankara Province, Turkey

Series of Phrygian Tumuli in Ankara-Bestepeler dating to the Phrygian settlement phase of the city in the 8th-6th centuries BCE. Some were destroyed over the last century due to urban expansion.
GPS position is given for the Ataturk Mausoleum, which sits on one of the more prominent ones. Rescue excavations were carried out around 1940-43.
