Mythical Birthplace of Aphrodite.
According to Greek legend, Aphrodite rose from the sea foam at this very place after her father, the old god Chronos, was emasculated by Zeus.
Aphrodite is also the Greek version of Babylonian Ishtar or Syrian Ashtarte, which Phoenician traders and sea-farers probably took to Cyprus from the nearby Lebanese coast on their trading voyages in the Bronze age. Corresponding statuettes were found at the nearby temple of Paphian Aphrodite. So in a roundabout way, Aphrodite did rise from the Sea Foam.
Local folk tales say that if you swin around the rock 3 times, it will improve your fertility and or love life.
