Originaly this was 11 Km south and unusually, on the East side of the Nile. The rock cut interior should be seen as a smaller version of Abu Simbel, though the front is not as impressive. Built by Ramses II. Dedicated to Ra, built to celebrate Ramses' first 30 year jubilee. Originaly, this was 11 Km south and unusually, on the East side of the Nile. The rock cut interior should be seen as a smaller version of Abu Simbel, though the front is not as impressive. There used to be sun dried brick pylons at the front, which have eroded. The interior has many fine reliefs with surviving colour.
