Pyramid in Lower Egypt (North)

Small pyramid for Queen Hetepheres, wife of Sneferu, just south of the bent pyramid. Sneferu could only acceed to the throne by marrying his half sister on account of the complex matrilineal egyptian royal structure.

Queen Hetepheres furniture and canopic jars are preserved in the Cairo Museum. They were found on the Giza plateau. It is thought her son Khufu removed them from Dashour as the site was threatened by tomb robbers.

The pyramid is of lower quality than the large ones as it is made of very rough blocks and infill, more like 5th dynasty pyramids. It originaly had a casing, of which traces remain.

You can now walk on top of the pyramid.
