La Pierre Croûte.

Already mentioned mid-19th century in Hollain (just North of Bavay (59 - Nord)), near a place called "Trou des Sarrazins". In 1810, the Baron of Morlembaix decided to move it into its property, the Castle of Bellignies (a few km further North-West), to protect it from any possible destruction. Having been in a private property ever since, it has been rather difficult to see it for the general public. The property has been bombed in 1918, but the stone survived. The Castle in presently in restoration since 2012 ; the park is not accessible yet. Sorry for the photo : nothing else seem available. Photo : Brou, Mégalithes, 1989, 266.

La Pierre Croûte.

Already mentioned mid-19th century in Houdain (just North of Bavay (59 - Nord), near a place called "Trou des Sarrazins".

In 1810, the Baron of Morlembaix decided to move it into its property, the Castle of Bellignies, (a few km further North-West), to protect it from any possible destruction.

Having been in a private property ever since, it has been rather difficult to see it for the general public.

The property has been bombed in 1918, but the stone survived.

The Castle in presently in restoration since 2012 ; the park is not accessible yet.

Sorry, folks, for the photo : not much else seems available right now.

Photo : Brou, Mégalithes, 1989, 266.

PS.: I'll be in touch with the Communal Administration of the village to get more information.
