The photo is not of the dolmen at St Jean Aubrigoux..which is referred to elsewhere on this site as Pierre des Fades..there is only one dolmen not two at St Jean.

The photograph above is of the Dolmen 'Morrel das Fadas' in the Aude (11).
[Corrected and new photos now posted - MegP Ed]

There is a menhir called Pierre Plantée des Fades...have pic of that too...maybe this is what the other page should be??

The dolmen retained its capstone until about 50 years ago. Apparently there has been recent talk of removing the stones altogether!

The other menhir listed for the commune is not there either...I don't know where the menhir in the photo is but according to the local farmers and hunt, its not at St Jean...they did show me another menhir "Pierre des Soeurs" or "Pierre de Mille ans" too, but I didnt get a photo...and it was smaller and rounder in section than the one on the other page.."St Jean Menhir"

One interesting thing with the menhirs in the area is that they have cuplike depressions cut into the top of them, which traditionally the locals filled with flammable material and lit at night...no one could tell me why though, despite one of the menhirs evidently being lit recently.

    Thanks for your coments Quesadillas.

    Photo moved to correct place.

We look forwards to your pictures of these sites.

    Menhir names corrected.

Please add as much information for all these sites as you can. This is how the Megalithic Portal works. And the more information we have, the more likely the stones are to be protected, hopefully preventing things like "Apparently there has been recent talk of removing the stones altogether!"
