Talaies de Can Jordi
Talaies de Can Jordi submitted by Talaiotik : Section of the perimeter wall. (Vote or comment on this photo)
A Talayotic settlement in Mallorca - the remains of an Iron Age settlement (ca. 1000-900 B.C) occupied until Roman and Islamic times. Only the southernmost section of the settlement is visible above ground nowadays, but more ruins remain hidden beneath the surface that remains unexcavated. The archaeological works began in 2015 and have focused on the most monumental remains, the south talaiot and the perimeter wall.

It is possible to reach this site by car using the road Ma-14 from Santanyí to Cas Concos, turning right approximately 1,3 km from Santanyí at the path called 'Camí de Can Jordi'. After that, just go ahead for this road until to see the first ruins, in a field on the left. the site is accessible all year round and the admission is free.

The wall that once surrounded all the settlement today preserves around 100 metres of clearly visible orthostatic line. The wall preserves at least one entrance that has lost the lintel and is closed with rubble and soil. Despite this, the entrance preserves two large monolithic slab jambs. The prehistoric wall draws an oval shape and other sections are, surely, hidden beneath modern dry stone walls. This kind of walls are usualy dated at late iron age (around the V century B.C). Next to the wall and close to the modern entrance, there are several rooms and other structures that has been partially excavated. A roman tomb was found here.
In the field behind the prehistoric wall there is a circular talaiot (tower-like structure), the last one standing of a group of three documented at the beginning of the XX century. The other two were destroyed, but there can be remains of them under the ground. The surviving talaiot is 3 metres high and preserves a Mediterranean column at the center of its chamber. The access is made by a low corridor. A bronze sword was found inside this monument in the 70s.
