Ancient Village or Settlement in Balearic Isles (Mallorca / Majorca)
In order to reach this site, we have to go to the astronomical observatory of Costitx, located less than 1 km south of this town. We have to park the car in the observarory parking and follow a short footpath that goes south of the main building. The archaeological site is located in the middle of an abandoned field to the right of the main footpath. The way has been indicated by posters short time ago.
This is a navetiform settlement from the bronze age (ca. 1700-1000 BC), one of the biggest and best preserved ones in Mallorca. The settlement has at least 10 navetiforms (apsidal housing buildings from Balearic bronze age) and other subsidiary buildings, being compared with other large sites in Mallorca like 'Clossos de Can Gaià' (Felanitx). The best preserved one is a triple room navetiform that has been partially excavated a few years before, located east of the core of the settlement. This building is 17 metres long and 3 metres high and has the typical elements of this period like a fireplace in the easternmost room, the only one that has been completely excavated at this time (2019).
The core of the settlement has been less worked than the eastern building and there is a large field of ruined structures. One of the most interesting ones is a large mound made of soil and rubble that is hiding a great structure, most probably another navetiform, that can be even better preserved than the eastern one. This mound has 4 metres high and at its top, remains of apsidal wall is visible.
