Voices Of Mysia: The Three Rock-Cut Sanctuaries Of Bigadic by davidmorgan on Sunday, 26 April 2015
(User Info | Send a Message)
The Province of Balikesir comprises of the Ancient Mysian territories. And the Mysians were relatives to the Thracians, Phrygians, Lydians and Bythinians, all of which were of the Thraco-Phrygian Cultural Stock. By the ancient historians and geographers, all their territories were called the Asian Thrace completely. The different sub-regions, dwelled by each of them, were called with all their ethnical names, as Thracia, Bythinia, Phrygia, Lydia, and Mysia. These lands ( outside of Thrace ) are inside of the Northwest
Anatolia. The achaeological studies, dedicated to them ( outside of the Phrygians’ and Lydians’ ), are not sufficiently well. The present studies show the interactions with the Southeastern Europe from the earliest times. The material and spiritual heritages include the identical cultural formations too. The rock-cut monuments or cultistic complexes are of those cultural formations.
