Ancient Settlement on Lesbos

An Early Bronze Age settlement dating from around 3000 BCE and abandoned in 2400 BCE.

The site is free to enter and is open all year. We were also given a free 16 page guide written in English. The developers of the site have very kindly provided shaded areas to view the site and read the informations boards.

There is also a seminar room where you can view a film about the site and see some nice models of what the village might have looked like. The staff were very helpful, spoke good English and made our visit most enjoyable.

More information at The Bronze Age on the Aegean Islands website.

The site is no longer free (3€ in the summer, 2€ winter). The materials (a movie, information boards and a brochure) as well as the remaining walls themselves make it easy to imagine how a bronze age settlement could look and function like. There are impressive remains of a pottery kiln.
It is true that it was abandoned in mid-3 millennium BC, but then was re-established (with different layout) and finally abandoned for good around "bronze age collapse".
Must see if you are on Lesvos.
