Marijampolio akmuo is a big erratic boulder near Vilnius (Lithuania). It is easily accessible from A15/E85 south of Vilnius (10 km from VNO).

The oldest photo available (alas copyrighted) goes back to 1955. It shows the stone slightly dug into the ground and closer to the road.
The stone is now entirely above ground level and further away from the road, on the lawn of a condominium.
The few holes cut in the top simply show that it was attempted to break the stones in pieces.

Marijampole is the name of the village ; akmuo means "stone".

Visited : June 2015.

Marijampolio akmuo
Marijampolio akmuo submitted by Alta-Falisa : Such a peculiar shape would have inspired legends, for sure, if the stone had been totally visible above ground level. But only recently (in the 1960's or so) has it been dug out, when the area was urbanized. Photo : June 2015. (Vote or comment on this photo)
