Phourni submitted by AlexHunger : Phourni Tholos B. This is an earlier construction, ca 2000 BCE, which has since collapsed. It also has a side chamber, but no external passage. Instead it has a round benchlike structure inside the circumference. This may be a useful comparison to the intact Tholos A. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Phourni submitted by AlexHunger : Tholos Tomb A The Necropolis of Phourni lies on the top of a hill just Northwest of the small wine town of Epano Arkhanes which is 15 Km south of Herakleion. This Tholos dates from 1400 BCE and could be seen as the transition between the chambered tombs of the Neolithic and more classical tombs like that of King Philip of Macedon.
