Latvian National History Museum
Latvian National History Museum submitted by stugsie : I wondered how the ancients made the hole for the axe handle. Well somebody in the Latvian National History museum has reconstructed the machine. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Museum in Latvia.

The National History Museum of Latvia is the largest repository of Latvian material culture. It was founded in 1869 as the museum of the Riga Latvian Society. Since 1920 the Museum has been located in the Riga Castle at Pils Laukums 3 Riga LV-1050 tel:67223004.
The museum shares the building with the office of the President of Latvia so the armed guards and security apparatus around the entrance can be a little offputting. Like everything else in Riga the entrance and the stairway to museum (it's on the 3rd floor) is a bit tatty but it has a excellent collection of ancient artefacts from the stone age onwards.
However the real gem is their display for the blind. I was able to finally handle a stone axe and run my finger along its edge (it's really sharp and fortunately I was cautious enough not to cut myself). Of course there's more than stone axes that can be handled, pottery shards , arrow heads, clothing fragments etc.

Re: Latvian National History Museum by Anonymous on Friday, 23 June 2017
Hello! I am grateful to have finally made my way here, it took some research and some wandering. I am very eager to make my way to latvia immediately. Any information on the cost of this would be helpful. I live in Canada. I would love to view your rock telescopes and your vast knowledge of the stars. Also, to have Riga explained to me.
