Minoan settlement in Crete

The ancient site of Kydonia is located in the centre of the modern city of Chania. The best preserved parts of the city were excavated on the Kasteli Hill. The Early and Middle Minoan remains scarcely survived, most of the preserved buildings belong to the Late Minoan I (1550-1450 BC) period, with some Late Minoan III additions. The excavations at Ayia Aikaterini Square revealed remains of two streets, four buildings and a square. As in case of other Minoan centres, the structures at Kasteli Hill were destroyed by fire around 1450 BC.
