Ramnous
Ramnous submitted by AlexHunger : Hillfort on the northern coast of Attica. The area has been inhabited since the neolithic, but the Athenians guarisoned the place after the persian invasion in order to watch the straight towards Euboa. There are several necropolises and two temples nearby. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Hillfort in Attica

Athenian Hillfort set up in 4th century BCE in order to control the waters towards Euboa and avoid a repeat of the Persian invasion. The fort even sported a small theater. The path can be reached via the small temples of Nemesis and Themis, but is long and arduous.

2011 Status: Ramnous Fort by bat400 on Sunday, 12 June 2011
(User Info | Send a Message)
The long path to the fort was blocked off when we visited in May. This may or may not be due to funding cuts that have shortened hours or closed areas of many museums and archaeological sites in Greece. However, as AlexHunger's photos show, you can see much of the fort ruins clearly from the temple sites.
