Ancient Temple in Northern Greece. The site dates from the 5th century and is located on a narrow pass near the sea on the west side of Kalandra, 4 km away.
Ancient temple dedicated to Poseidon. The site is surrounded by a wire fence with a locked gate, but someone had cut a very large hole in the fence allowing access to it. The temple is situated on the road to Posseidi beach, just before the car park. According to a local guide the temple served a nearby ancient city, the ruins of which can be found in the surrounding area, if you look for them. The city has not been excavated. What walls are left just show the layout of the temple.
AlexHunger adds: There are other older 12th to 6th Century BCE buildings nearby. The apsidal Poseidi building is one of the earliest sanctuaries in Greece and the only one with an exclusively cult function dating to the Dark Ages in Northern Greece. Very close to the temple there is a lighthouse.
