Fleurons Macedonian Tomb submitted by bat400 : The front face the tomb. Unlike the larger Krisis Tomb nearby, the Fleurons Tomb is free standing in the front and its roof structure was intact enough for this reconstruction. You can stand and view the tomb from directly in front of the entrance, and see through the antechamber and into the main chamber from that vantage point. You are not allowed to enter past the front. Chambered Tomb in Northern Greece and Macedonia.

Located most to the east among Lefkadia tombs, this Macedonian tomb is dated for first half of 3rd century BC. It's name comes from the characteristic fleuron ornaments.

The huge marble door that would have shut the antechamber from the main chamber lies where it fell back into the tomb. The exposure of the photo has been pushed and shows much more detail than I was able to see at the time, including details of the stone sarcophagus (on the right,) and that the interior walls are painted. May 2017: Fleurons Macedonian Tomb by bat400 on Tuesday, 27 June 2017
(User Info | Send a Message)
Similar to the "Tomb of the Judges" nearby, this tomb was not yet open daily and is unlikely to be open daily in 2017. However, because we arrived when a school group was about to show up, we were able to enter with a guide. The colors are vivid and unlike all other tombs we saw, the fleuron ornaments had not been so damaged over the centuries that they could not be put back in place.
The massive marble doorway lies in the position were an earthquake left it, but our guide described the mechanism (still in place when excavated) that allowed the doors to the interior chamber be closed - and locked.
