Kapsēdes dižakmens
Kapsēdes dižakmens submitted by Alta-Falisa : Kapsēdes dižakmens, as seen when coming from the South, the most striking approach I would say. June 2014. (Vote or comment on this photo)
One of the largest boulders of Latvia.

Sitting at a former major crossroads near Kapsēde (North of Liepāja) – or rather being the reason why several ancient roads converged to this monumental landmark.

Originally, the stone was much bigger, but it has been partially used as a carreer ; the remaining three large pieces once belonged to the same single stone.
Obviously, legends abound about this stone, often to involve the Devil.
During WWI, German soldiers carved the inscription „Weltkrieg 1914–1916”.

Kapsēdes dižakmens
Kapsēdes dižakmens submitted by Alta-Falisa : Kapsede Stone is signposted at this T-junction (56.59505, 21.13335) along the road P111, but I strongly recommend to approach the Stone from the south, on a very decent gravel road, in order to discover it under a better angle (as shown on the photo at the top of the page).
