mfrincu visited on 31st Jul 2015 - their rating: Cond: -1 Amb: 3 Access: 4 I have visited the reconstruction inside the museum while filming for an episode in my documentary on the first astronomers. The temple is awesome, way more impressive than the pictures. The statues are simply astonishing.
The neolithic sanctuary from Parta is a 6000 year old temple dedicated to the bull cult. The entire structure is reconstructed at a 1:2 scale inside the Museum of Banat in Timisoara, Romania which is currently closed for renovations. Inside the temple archeologists have uncovered traces of various offerings in the form of primitive cereals. Two beautiful side by side statues, one representing a bull and another a women were discovered inside. They are indicative of some sort of cult of fertility. What is most interesting in this place is that it exhibits a solar alignment at the equinoxes when the Sun light enters through a hole in the eastern wall and touches the bull head. Another interesting aspect is that during its construction the Sun had its vernal equinox sunrise in the ancient constellation of Taurus.
There is an interesting simulation of the complex that can be seen here: http://arheologie.ulbsibiu.ro/santiere/parta/expozitievirtuala/expozitie%20virtuala%20neo%20eneolitica.wmv
