Broch or Nuraghe in Balearic Isles (Mallorca / Majorca)

Poorly preserved remains of a talaiotic settlement (iron age). The only visible building at this site is a big but heavily ruined circular talaiot (tower-like iron age monument). Parts of the talaiot are preserved as high 2,5 metres high. The inner chamber is collapsed and inaccessible due to the vegetation that covers the entire monument. The corridor that once lead to the inner chamber is also covered by rubble and soil.

This archaeological site, as is usual in Mallorca, suffered great destruction from agricultural works. Talaiots use to be one of the last monuments of prehistorical sites to desappear because they are heavy and difficult to take down. For that reason, the massive stone structures used to be reused as part of dry stone walls, as we can see at this site. Moreover, the shape of the modern enclosure that delimits the property has a circular form, very rare on modern stone fences and very common in prehistoric enclosures.
