The menhir of Saint Simon 1 was mentioned in the “Repertoire des monuments megalithiques du Cantal.” At least 3 standing stones are found in the commune of Saint Simon. This particular one is in a private property but visible from the road D53 from St Simon to Giou de Mamou.

It has been Christianized and has a long thin cross on top of it. According to the records is 2.55m long and 62 wide.

It ll be good that if the Nazis invade us again they use your GPS system. all 4 standing stones just registered appear in your maps miles away from the coordinates given. thank you for using the coordinates given to place them in the right department and region

    Sry, the coordinates currently used for all the 4 mentioned sites are exactly the ones that have been submitted via the new site form. The coordinates have not been altered, but in fact apparently are wrong.

    I think this is something to do with your gps device, or computer system not being set up to use the worldwide wgs84 coordinate system. Perhaps your device or system is set up in the French "Lambert" coordinates. In this case, you will obtain very different results for the global position of any particular site.

    On the megalithic portal, we try to use the wgs84 system, although in Britain the OS Map Ref system is primarily used (even more confusing to those that dont understand the differences than Lambert!).

    Try and check the source of your positions to see which system your device is set in.
