TheCaptain couldn't find on 21st May 2000 - their rating: Access: 3 Visit Rennes-le-Chateau with some of the Americans. Walk into the hills to look for stone circle, but find nothing obvious.

There is said to be a stone circle near to this spa town, but I couldn't find it when looking several years ago, although I had a very enjoyable walk around the nearby hills.

Not far from the very strange and legendary village of Rennes-le-Chateau.

Re: Le Cercle by Anonymous on Monday, 19 October 2020
To get to Le Cercle, one walks in a southerly direction from the church of Rennes-les-Bains down the main road. Right on the outskirts, a narrow road branches off slantwise to the right. Following this, one turns left just before the last stone building on the left-hand side.

Entering the house’s yard, one immediately sees Le Cercle — an ancient stone circle of about 7 m in diameter. The house to the left was built on top of some of these stones, which are visible at the bottom of the wall to the left of the front door. Some of the other stones are only just visible above the surface.

I think that now this stone circle has totally disapeared. It was a place of esoteric rendez-vous at 19th century even if this cromlech was very little. Mr Saunières (this priest is supposed to have discovered a cathar or wisigothic treasure) often visited this circle. Today, nobody seems to know where it is.
