Cromlech de la Rouquette submitted by alchemille : Henge de Rouquettes, Calvinet. Cantal, Auvergne (Vote or comment on this photo)
Stone Circle in Auvergne:Cantal (15)

This henge was not mentioned in the Revue archéologique du Cantal, however in a list of monuments mégalithiques d'Auvergne, published in this Revue a menhir near Calvinet was mentioned. I decided to head for Calvinet to have a look as it is quite peculiar that in the area of The Châtaigneraie cantalienne, in the south of the department of Cantal, there is hardly any megalithic sites indicated, however in the nearby departments of the Lot and the Aveyron hundreds of megalithic sites are mentioned.

This Cromlech is found near a gîte in the lieu dit Rouquettes or Roquettes south of Calvinet. I haven't got any other information yet, I should be going to the Archives Departamentales du Cantal to find something else about it.
Unfortunately the site is placed in a private property so access to the area is impossible, I had just permission to take some pictures from the wire barrier placed around the stones. It seems to me that two circles are placed side by side and there are also some randomly placed rocks nearby, however, as some small stone huts are now placed between the rocks it is difficult for an amateur like me to have a clear picture of the site.

This entry refers two extraordinary megaliths which have here been confused. One is the huge Roc Roti, by a roadside and crowned with a hideous Pius IX iron cross.
The other is the amazing stone circle, on private land and not accessible except to charmers like myself (!)
see http://www.irishmegaliths.org.uk/fzRocRoti.htm

The T4T35 website also carries misleading information.
