Hillfort in Slaskie

The hillfort in Stare Bielsko is one of the biggest in this area - it has 215 x 205 m in diameter and is was originally enclosed with two circular ramparts and a ditch. The ditch is up to 10 m wide and 5 m deep, but only the inner rampart survived - the outer ring of earthwork was mostly destroyed during building the local road. The excavations unearthed large quantities of medieval pottery (mostly from the 13th century AD), cottages, bloomeries and two rectangular wells. Traces of destruction by fire come from the beginnings of 14th century AD - the hillfort was burned down and abandoned.
