Vidče Stone Spheres
Vidče Stone Spheres submitted by ladrin : Reportedly tens of millions years old geological phenomena. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Natural Stone / Erratic / Other Natural Feature in Bohemia

Vidče is the old east moravian village, first mentioned in chronicles in 1310. Is located in the hilly heart of very original "Wallachia" land. Vidče village became very popular between local people as well as between professionals because of the discovery in the nearby quarry. In mid 90th found employees of the quarry pritty peculiar stone objects.

Several huge spheres or egg shaped stones of diameters up to 3 metres. Some were left in the rock wall of the quarry and are practically unapproachable these days. But two were placed in the middle of the village like a decorations.

Of course there were many wild theories regarding origin or purpose of these spheres. According the most likely geological survey the spheres are the same material as surroundings and are 55 till 65 mil years old. They were created by the pressure when rotating in the rock. However some of the objects have inside allegedly completely different material which is covered in about 5 cm thick shell, which fact no one explained.

All around the world can be found similar objects, e.g. stone spheres of Costa Rica. But in this part of the Europe it is very rare. Actually the only other such place is not far away about 30km near the Czech / Slovak border. I must go there during my next visit...
