Greipstad
Greipstad submitted by kenntha88 : This is the best preserved barrow mound of the site, it is located some distance away from the site, but is on a meadow on a plateu overlooking the sea. It is about 8 meters across and 1 meter tall. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Just as the site in Lavangen, this has also a typical location on a grassy plateau with a beautiful view of the sea and also the open ocean to the west. It has also access to the mountains through a small valley behind the settlement.

This is a very well-preserved site of an iron age settlement, and is very interesting!

It consists of a large house that was excavated in the 80's, and sites of three more structures with the depressions still visible. It has also three larger mounds (sadly they were removed), one large burial cairn by the sea, and 7-8 smaller cairns, stone fences and some boat houses.

The nature and the view is beautiful from this place with the mountains in the background and the sea below!

Greipstad submitted by kenntha88 : The third structure is the most easy to see today, here the depression mark is visible. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Greipstad submitted by kenntha88 : The second construction site is also been flattened, but this is the exact location. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Greipstad
Greipstad submitted by kenntha88 : This is the site of a huge long house, about 30 meters in length, and was probably home to a local cheftain. It is not possible to make out the walls, it was flattened during the excavations. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Greipstad
Greipstad submitted by kenntha88 : This is a very large burial cairn, about 20 meters across and 2 meters in height, but the grass growing on it makes the impression less impressive. (Vote or comment on this photo)
