I have visited· I would like to visit

ModernExplorers visited on 3rd Aug 2012 - their rating: Cond: 3 Amb: 3 Access: 3 Is it a hill? is it a Pyramid?? There is enough evidence to suggest it is more than a hill. I was there for a 2 week volunteer program but I must return to investigate further. There are huge slabs of a concrete-type material, tunnels running underneath, healing properties

Alleged Pyramid feature in Bosnia. The second Bosnian hill, so said "pyramid of the sun" is a huge feature overhanging the town of Visoko, NE Sarajevo.

Its face over Visoko is partly covered with huge slabs of stone, composed of pebbles linked with a "kind of cement" that the local "guides" pretend to be artificial.

I identify it just as natural "pudding stone", a conglomerate of pebbles and natural (I assume silica) stone. It results probably from the second era when a former river or sea bottom was pushed deep into the earth and transformed into stone by pressure and heat.
Then during the third era the raise of the complex alpine/dalmatian chain created external folds, among them the bosnian hills, where horizontal layers of schists and pudding stone were exhausted, folded, cracked and now show curious, but natural features.

I take all rantings about egyptiano-maya pyramids and other unbelievable stories told by locals as an excellent way to develop local business.

[bat400, admin] Background Information:

Osmanagić's campaign proposing the Visoko hills as man made pyramids started in 2005. The owner / CEO of a metals manufacturing firm is the author of several 'alternative history' books positing, among other theories, that the Maya were descendents of aliens from the Pleiades who had previously founded Atlantis, and that Hitler created a secret underground base in Antartica. His Bosnian pyramid theory states that the structures were built between 12,000 BC and 500 BC, although the Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun Fundation website lists a construction date of 10,000 BC. Excavations at the site have uncovered what Osmanagić states is a paved entrance plateau and tunnels, as well as stone blocks and ancient mortar which he has suggested once covered the structure.

An example of a primary archaeological refutation was stated by Curtis Runnels (Boston University,) an expert in prehistoric Greece and the Balkans, that the hunter gatherers of that time period have left no articfacts or structures consistant with megalithic architecture.

In May 2006, members of the Geological team investigating Visočica on behalf of the Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun Foundation held a press conference in Tuzla to present the results of their research. The academics (University of Tuzla, Faculty of Mining and Geology) led by Dr. Sejfudin Vrabac, concluded that the hill is a natural geological formation, made of clastic sediments of layered composition and varying thickness, and that its shape is a consequence of endodynamical and exodynamical processes in the post-Miocene era.

Among other arguments against the pyramid theory is the lack of artefacts, tools, and tool marks. Both laymen and academics have seen the excavation projects as a construction process in itself. As Joshua Foer of Outside magazine said, "It dawns on me, and I'm shocked that it has taken me so long to figure this out, that Osmanagic is carving pyramids out of these pyramid-shaped hills."

Meanwhile, Osmanagić' has revealed the Pyramid of the Sun was an ancient energy source represented by an iron plate "combined with the negative ions and underground water streams and it’s able to generate the electricity of over 10 kW."

Note: After four year lawsuit, the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo issues a final verdict upholding the complainant. Bosnian Pyramid project finally gets its green light to continue excavations, see comment

New podcast about the Bosnian Pyramids and Semir Osmanagic by Andy B on Friday, 12 August 2022
(User Info | Send a Message)
Next to a small village in Bosnia there is what some believe is the world's oldest and largest pyramid. Sitting there forgotten for millennials until one man discovered them again. Or did he?

Introduction: Pyramids in Bosnia? by Andy B on Tuesday, 26 November 2019
(User Info | Send a Message)
Marc Barkman-Astles asks: ‘Are there really pyramids in Bosnia?’ The wide-eyed enthusiasm at the possibility of un-discovered wonders in the Balkans was palpable in an email I received in the summer of 2013. The Archaeosoup YouTube channel has been receiving and answering so-called ‘Questions of Doom’ since 2010 but following more than nine years of public archaeology, this question remains, by far, the most challenging
I have yet received.

Initially, it was easy to share in the excitement of the question; after-all undiscovered pyramids in Europe truly would be remarkable! However in my video response, it fell to me to share not only my enthusiasm for the question but also the concise answer: no. There are no pyramids in Bosnia. The so-called pyramids are geological formations called flatirons. Flatirons look somewhat pyramidal in shape, but alas they are not man-made. The so-called Bosnian Pyramids have been dismissed by the international archaeological community, although it has fostered debate about how archaeologists tackle such claims

The ‘Questions of Doom’ video received ‘passionate’ comments from some people in Bosnia, but the full impact of this question-and-answer revealed itself a few days later. One morning, I received a neatly wrapped package in the post, containing a letter covered in human faeces! It was a threat to me and to my wife and this was all because my video risked impacting a Bosnian tea-towel salesman’s trade in
souvenirs for the tourists who come to see the so-called pyramids.

Unfortunately, just as this is the one time I have received such unpleasant post; it is also the only time I have been compelled to delete a video from my YouTube Channel. Following a brief investigation by North Tyneside Police, we were advised to remove the ‘offending media’ as the threat, particularly to my wife, was too serious to risk. However, we continue to discuss this and related instances of
pseudoarchaeology on YouTube.

Bosnian Pyramid project wins court case by Andy B on Wednesday, 18 January 2012
(User Info | Send a Message)
The "Archaeological Park: Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun" has won a major victory in its bid to uncover the potential remains of a lost civilisation beneath the rocks and soil of the hill of Visocica.
The organisation has been attempting to win permission to excavate the site, which it believes hides a major pyramidal structure, since 2005 when explorer Dr Semir Osmanagic first proposed his theory that Visocica hill is actually an ancient pyramid, which he named the Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun.

In 2007, the "Archaeological Park: Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun" prepared an interdisciplinary scientific research project of the Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun and submitted its papers to the Government in order to request permission to explore the site.

Although the organisation had previously had permission to explore much of the area, this had been revoked when the Ministry of Culture and Sports extended a protected area on the hill, citing concerns that an ancient fort and town sited at the top of Visocica would be damaged by the work being carried out by Osmanagic.

In fact the Ministry of Physical Planning was also prepared to issue a license to the Foundation to give it permission to research the area but their application was subsequently turned down on three separate occasions by the Ministry of Culture and Sports (signed: Minister Gavrilo Grahovac).

They claimed that permission for the project could not be given “because the project envisaged measures that threaten cultural property, the planned measures are not of a permanent character and do not provide permanent protection of the archaeological site, and anticipated work would not have provided a professional approach to research."

However, the Foundation stressed that its project meets all the measures designed to protect cultural property in the manner prescribed by law for the protection of cultural heritage. It also pointed out that those participating in the project design and research team included 47 eminent international scientists and experts.

The Foundation went on to request permits for archaeological and supporting research, arguing that it would ensure the conservation and preservation of the historical area of the ‘Old Town Visoki’.

Four years later, on 26th October 2011, the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo issued a final verdict upholding the complainant. Thus, after four years, the Pyramid project finally gets its green light – and the attitude of the Federal Service for Protection of Monuments towards the project has been open to questioning. Osmanagic was delighted with the outcome, saying, “Justice is slow but attainable. It is time to begin to demolish the bureaucratic world of negative attitude towards project.”

I've read an interesting article on http://www.bosnian-pyramid.net
about the corners of the pyramid. It would be an easy way to proof
quickly the existence, but they dig near the corners but not the
corners. Then they've dug something on the top of it, but not the
top!? I've seen some pictures on that really let me think again about
this whole thing. Every day I believe less in this mystery.

Bosnian Stone Balls by Andy B on Thursday, 07 December 2006
(User Info | Send a Message)
see also this page, with photos:
http://www.bosnianpyramid.com/Archive_files/BosnianStoneBalls.html

New evidence of ancient civilisation?

Bosnian writer Ahmed Bosnić has recently returned from the Valley of River Bosna (Bosnia) where he visited the village of Ozimići and found a significant concentration of the stone balls found across Bosnia. He was in the company Dr Aly Abd Barakat , Egyptian geologist (Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority. ), who confirmed that the balls were man made rather than natural phenomenon.

The existence of the balls in this region was not known until an earthquake 12 or 13 years ago revealed them. They vary in size with the largest measuring 1.7m high and with a circumference of 5.3m.

Theory is that the balls were created at the same time as the pyramids in the Bosnian Valley of Pyramids and that their existence proves an ancient civilisation existed in today’s Bosnia. This location will soon become protected as a National Park and will be recognised as one of the sites of archaeological significance in Bosnia.

Bosnic also visited Mećevići (Zavidovići) which contains more than 20 of the mysterious stone balls, measuring from a few centimetres’ diameter up to 3m in circumference. The picture shown indicates the size of one of the balls found.
