Hillfort in New Zealand
Muriwai Headland Pa is located in Te Rau Puriri Regional Park at South Head NZ. The site can only be reached on foot after an hour's walk. The area has many archaeological sites as it was part of the main Maori settlement from ancient times on this western side of the Kaipara Harbour at Omokoiti Bay. The pa is a headland pa and there has been quite a lot of cliff erosion over the centuries whilst extensive grazing over the last century coupled with the earthen nature of the site has led to considerable erosion, but the outline of the pa and its defensive ditch can be seen still.
